Portland, Oregon (PRWEB) December 09, 2014

As of Dec. 1, Bridgetown Physical Therapy and Training Studio now offers cancer survivors a rehabilitation program for overcoming the physical barriers resulting from cancer treatment. Lead by Doctor Mark Hatfield, PT, DPT, the program helps survivors transition into a long term recovery and return to normal life activities.

As musculoskeletal experts, physical therapists are trained to identify dysfunction in the body and restore movement. Cancer survivors have unique physiological changes following cancer treatment that affects physical activity and movement. At Bridgetown Physical Therapy and Training Studio each client receives an individual plan of care with respect to their cancer treatment and medications. The program includes evidence-based exercises specifically for cancer survivors during and following cancer treatment. Additionally, it designs a long term home exercise plan.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) have developed physical activity guidelines for cancer survivors as a result from a growing body of research that shows multiple benefits of exercise. These benefits include improvements in survival rates, physical function, aerobic capacity, strength, flexibility, quality of life, and less fatigue. There is also consistent evidence that exercise is safe during and after cancer treatment.

“I believe our clinic is a perfect platform for this population,” said co-owner Mark Hatfield. “It provides specialized medical care in a clean and enjoyable private gym environment.”
