CAEP’s Newest Member to Focus on Equity in Education, International Initiatives

CAEP President James G. Cibulka welcomed Scott Jackson Dantley, PhD to the CAEP’s leadership staff as Special Assistant to the President, Equity and Global Issues.
“Dr. Dantley has broad and deep experience as a science educator, professor, and university administrator at a number of different institutions of higher education, including HBCUs,” said Cibulka. “He has been active in teacher education accreditation both here in the U.S. and internationally. Scott’s appointment will help CAEP deliver on its commitment to strengthening equity throughout our accreditation processes, including institutional capacity building. He will assist CAEP’s outreach to address international accreditation and other global considerations.”
CAEP is the sole accrediting body for educator preparation. Accreditation is a nongovernmental activity based on peer review that serves the dual functions of assuring quality and promoting improvement. More than 900 educator preparation providers participate in the CAEP accreditation system, which serves all providers currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC). Educator preparation providers include traditional institutions of higher education, as well as alternative pathways such as residency programs.

My responsibilities regarding the initiatives of equity, institutional capacity building, and global affairs support CAEP’s strategic direction and address critical areas in preparing the next generation of professional educators,” said Dantley. “I look forward to joining the leadership team and to my involvement in supporting those initiatives that help CAEP accomplish its goals and improve the quality of educator preparation.”
Dantley has a long history of administrative experience in accreditation and higher education. He has held executive level positions in higher education as a tenured Professor and Dean, Associate Provost and Associate Vice President at several universities over the last 15 years overseeing areas in Assessment, institutional research, and national and regional accreditation. He joins CAEP from serving as the Vice President of Recognition Services at the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), which is responsible for recognizing approximately 60 accreditors.
Dantley serves on the University of Wyoming Advisory Board of a grant funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), a project to implement Visualization Gaming to Improve Computational Thinking. He also serves on The George Washington University Alumni Advisory Board, and he is the official representative of the Board to the University’s Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.
Dantley received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from The George Washington University, a Master’s degree in Chemistry from North Carolina A&T State University and a Master’s and Ph.D. from The University of Maryland in science education with a focus in chemistry education.
