CosScan

CosScan” was featured on NewsWatch as part of its monthly AppWatch, which takes a look at the latest and coolest applications on the market for iOS, Android, and Windows. Joe Toohey, the host of AppWatch and technology expert, conducted the app review and shared with viewers how this app allows users to scan skincare products to determine if they’re okay to use.

When meeting someone new, the first thing an individual usually notices is the other person’s face. And as it’s the most exposed part of anyone’s body, it’s important for people to take care of their face and skin. With so many skincare and cosmetic products out there it’s hard to nail down what’s the best product for them. But all is not lost, because SkintechMD created the world’s first cosmetic scanner app, CosScan.

Users simply start using CosScan by downloading it onto their mobile device and answering three general questions about their skin. Once they have a product in hand, they snap a photo of the product ingredients and CosScan will scan through its database of over 17,000 ingredients to determine if any of them will cause skin allergies, block pores or have any link to cancer. CosScan will then make a recommendation on whether the user has the “all clear” to buy the product or if they should consult a dermatologist first.

With its integrated search function, people can also search by ingredient. And of course scanned products are saved for future reference. SkintechMD is inserting a cosmetic product databank and a barcode scanner into the next version of the App. This Digital Skin Platform is partially funded by a Government of Singapore Grant. CosScan is currently free to download on iOS and Android devices.
