Middletown, PA (PRWEB) April 17, 2015

Research is exploring two big questions about aquatic environments: (1) How does walking in shallow water compare to walking on an underwater treadmill or on land? (2) Does the aquatic environment influence cognition? These two questions help to answer why aquatic programming may have additional value for your participants, beyond what was previously understood.

To answer these questions, leading researchers have begun to explore the direct and indirect effects of aquatic therapy in regards to cognition and gait. Their results will be more deeply explored in a groundbreaking ICAA (International Council on Active Aging) webinar, “Influence of an Aquatic Environment on Cognition and Gait,” sponsored by HydroWorx on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. EDT.

“Influence of an Aquatic Environment on Cognition and Gait” will be led by Dr. Eadric Bressel and Dr. Dennis Dolny, both of Utah State University. Dr. Bressel is a professor and clinical research scientist in the Sports Medicine Program; Dr. Dolny is the department head of Health, Physical Education and Recreation in the College of Education and Human Services. Both have pioneered hydrotherapy and aquatic exercise research, and continue to use scientific tests to back the anecdotal findings of elite runners, professional athletes and physical therapy experts, as well as their clients and patients.

This one-hour webinar will concentrate on several areas of aquatic therapy, gait and cognition, including:

The types of underwater therapy (e.g., underwater treadmill walking, shallow pool walking, deep water walking) that have proven beneficial for patients who may not be able to function as well in land-based locomotion therapies.
How cognition is enhanced when a patient undergoes specific exercises in an aquatic modality such as a pool with treadmill floor.

Physical and occupational therapists and assistants, wellness directors and coordinators, aquatics and fitness directors, and professors and researchers are encouraged to sign up for “Influence of an Aquatic Environment on Cognition and Gait” today at http://ww2.hydroworx.com/webinar-icaa-apr-2015. Registration is free, but is required to attend.

About the Presenters

Eadric Bressel, Ph.D., holds a doctorate in biomechanics and regularly researches neuromechanical adaptations to therapeutics exercise in his role at Utah State University, Logan, Utah. He is a member of the American Society of Biomechanics, as well as the American College of Sports Medicine.

Dennis Dolny, Ph.D. has chaired 10 doctoral committees and published 30 peer-reviewed research articles during his professional career. His laboratory at Utah State University collaborates with the Sports Medicine department, specializing in an examination of the role of hydrotherapy in rehabilitation following lower extremity surgical procedures and joint replacement in the elderly.

About HydroWorx®

Since the late 1990s, HydroWorx has manufactured aquatic therapy pools with built-in underwater treadmills to enable physical therapists to more effectively offer their patients the opportunity to increase range of motion, decrease risk of falls and joint stress, and remain motivated through the rehab process.

Products such as the HydroWorx 2000 and 500 Series therapy pools have revolutionized the face of aquatic therapy; in fact, HydroWorx technology is used by world-class facilities like the renowned Kennedy Krieger Institute and The Andrews Institute, as well as physical therapy clinics across the country.

HydroWorx offers a wide range of underwater treadmill pools and peripheral products and services. Every day, more than 23,000 athletes and patients use HydroWorx technology to recover from injuries and health conditions.
