The Arizona Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AzAMI) at Mesa Community College (MCC) is celebrating National Manufacturing Day by opening its doors to the community. Guided tours of its enhanced machining, processing and additive manufacturing labs will be offered between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 3, 2014 at MCC’s Southern and Dobson campus (1833 W. Southern Ave, Mesa, AZ 85202). Parking is available in southeast Lot D.

The AzAMI at MCC was established in the fall of 2013, responding to the immediate and future needs of industries including drafting, machining, automation, welding and electronics.

AzAMI increased its capacity to train students using the infusion of a $ 2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration and $ 400,000, a portion of the $ 1.4 million Maricopa Community Colleges received to bolster educational efforts in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) across key industry sectors. AzAMI will provide veterans, trade-impacted workers and others with the knowledge, skills and abilities required by aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors of today and tomorrow.

“It is a privilege to host this Open House on National Manufacturing Day and showcase how the federal and state financial support is being used develop state-of-the-art facilities to elevate the learning experience for our students. They will graduate with the skills high tech industries have told us they need,” said Bob Bonura, Chair of MCC’s Applied Science and Technology programs.
