The decision to move your home is a very big one, especially in this day and economic age. Some people have thought more about purchasing land and moving their entire house. Now this may sound weird at first but moving your whole home is not unheard of. If anything it requires a whole lot of work and preparation.

The average home weights a lot, like almost several hundred tons. That won’t be easy to lift on your own. It takes time at first to jack up your house and put it on timbers. Then you have to move it to a stable flatbed transportation vehicle. Before that can be done, you need to look into contractors to remove the wiring and disconnect the plumbing. If you have septic and independent oil tank then you need to take care. Moving a house from these components can be time consuming and rather expensive.

The money involved in moving your home will vary depending on the size and weight of your house. The smaller the house the easier to move and simple to accomplish but also the bigger a structure the easier it is to move then.

Depending on how far you are moving your home will depend on how much security you need to house the structure. If you are planning to move a few states away you may want to rethink just how much this house means to you. Not only do you need to disconnect the power and utilities at your current location you need to make sure that the authorities are out where you are moving too. They should be preparing your cable and your plumbing all hooked back up into your newly moved home. Once moved out there contractors will have to come out and hook back up your utilities. There is not a permit written that will permit you to reattach and hook everything up yourself.

The last thing you need to remember is to talk all this over with your insurance provider. Double check and see if you are even covered under an action like this. Sometimes Homeowners’ Insurance will not cover moves that involve picking up the physical abode and leaving with it. Like with other forms of insurance this is a breach of contract and will require a new assessor to come out and evaluate your home. Moving one’s home is not a decision to make lightly.
