Trident Dean, Faculty Member Publishes Economics Article

Dr. Stephen K. Pollard, Dean of the College of Business Administration and College of Information Systems, and Faculty Member Dr. Giorgio Canarella collaborated with a team including Stephen M. Miller to prepare the paper “Purchasing Power Parity Between the U.K. and Germany: The Euro Era.” This article appeared in Open Economics Review, Vol. 25, Issue 4, 2014. Dr. Pollard’s teaching interests are economic development, international economics, statistics/econometrics, and current research methods.

Faculty Lead Concludes Key Study On Online Learners

Master of Business Administration Faculty Lead, Dr. Qin Sun, along with Dr. Gopala Ganesh at the University of North Texas, just had their joint study “Developing and Teaching an Online MBA Marketing Research Class: Implications for Online Learning Effectiveness” published in the Journal of Education for Business. The study examines an online marketing research course, including course content, topic sequence, class assignments, as well as student performance and feedback, with the implications for online course design and student learning effectiveness.

Business College Professor Published For The Seventh Time

Dr. Donald Wicker, Adjunct Professor in the College of Business Administration, just published his seventh book. Entitled Happiness is a Moving Target, the book discusses how each individual is responsible for his or her own happiness, and how everyone can change their personal situation – rather than complain about it – for a better, more fulfilled life.

Business Professor Co-Authors Book On Channel Productivity

College of Business Professor Dr. Yi Ling recently published the book “What Are The Determinants Of Channel Productivity?: Some Lessons From The People’s Republic Of China” in July. The book is co-authored by Eugene D. Jaffe, Professor at the Graduate School of Business Administration, Bar-Ilan University Israel. Dr. Ling also teaches in the School of Economics and Management at Southwest Petroleum University, located in Chengdu, China.

Trident Ph.D. Graduate, Team Of Professors See Study Published

Dr. Brian Kooiman, a 2013 graduate of Trident’s Ph.D. in Educational Leadership program, along with Dr. Wenling Li, Program Director of the Ph.D. in Educational Leadership Program, and Dr. Heeja Kim and Dr. Michael Wesolek, both of whom are professors in the College of Education, collaborated on a recently accepted paper. The study, entitled “Linking the Educational Principles of Multiplayer Gaming and Play to Common Core Strategies,” will be featured in the International Journal of Technology in Teaching and Learning. The team researched the potential for using multiplayer video game educational principles as tools to help with the implementation of new standards for education.

Professor Recognized For Work With Unemployed Women

In August, College of Health Sciences faculty member Joy Lough was featured by North Carolina Fox affiliate WGHP for her extensive volunteer work with The Women’s Resource Center of Alamance County. As the teacher of the three-week workshop called “Get the Job: The Job Landing Series,” Lough – who taught the series for free – imparted her knowledge and expertise to help unemployed women sharpen their professional skills in order to find success in the job market. In addition to teaching Human Resource Management at Trident, Lough is an entrepreneur, author, consultant, teacher, and motivational speaker.

BSHS Program Director’s Research On Women’s Health Issues Published

The American Journal of Preventive Medicine has published the study “Providing Young Women with Credible Health Information about Bleeding Disorders,” which features Dr. Patricia Rhynders as the lead author, along with co-authors Cynthia A. Sayers, Dr. Rodney J. Presley, and Dr. JoAnn Thierry, all of whom are researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Key findings from the study can be viewed on the CDC website.

Trident Graduate, Professor Starts Own Journal

Dr. David Nadler, a Trident University Ph.D. graduate and current faculty member in the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences program recently published work in the peer-reviewed journal Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health, Volume 11, Issue 3. The article is entitled “Using Logistic Regression to Model New York City Restaurant Grades Over a Two-Year Period.” Additionally, he founded the peer-reviewed publication, the Journal of Health, Environment, Energy and Technology. This journal is a semi-annual, peer-reviewed journal that aims to support the scientific community in health, the environment, energy, and technology. Authors are encouraged to submit their original manuscripts for review and publication to this open access journal.

Faculty Lead’s Work Published In Key Journal

Dr. Mary Lind’s paper, “The Impact of Virtual Collaboration and Collaboration Technologies on Knowledge Transfer and Team Performance in Distributed Organizations,” was accepted and published in International Journal of Knowledge Based Organizations. Dr. Lind is a Faculty Lead in Trident’s College of Information Systems.

Ph.D. Student, Faculty Member To Present Poster At iConference

Jose Angeles, current student in the Ph.D. in Business Administration program and part time Faculty member in the College of Information Systems, will present a poster at the 2015 iConference, hosted by University of California, Irvine’s Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences in Newport Beach, CA. The poster is entitled “Perceived Business Process Knowledge, the Construct, Its Dimensions, and the Measurement.” Other presenting institutions include University of California, Los Angeles, Drexel University, and Carnegie Mellon University.

Leadership Change Within General Education

On October 1st, Dr. Tanya Murray began to serve as General Education Program Director. Dr. Lisa Mohanty, who previously held that role, continues in her position as Faculty Lead of Social Sciences. Dr. Murray will maintain the responsibility for all science courses.

Faculty Lead’s Paper Accepted By Feminist Economics

Dr. Lisa Mohanty’s paper “Why Would She? Polygyny and Women’s Welfare in Ghana” (with co-author Dr. Amy Ickowitz) was recently accepted for publication by the journal Feminist Economics. The paper examines whether women benefit from polygyny and if they are more or less oppressed than monogamous women using data from households in Ghana. Little evidence is found to support the view that women experience economic benefits from polygamous unions. Dr. Mohanty’s research interests include demographic economics, economics of race and gender, economic development, economics of education, and women’s studies.
