On May 21, 2015, the Thompson Education Center held a welcome party for the delegation from the China Cuisine Association. There were representatives from over 30 major restaurant chains in China that participate in the event. During the dinner party, the delegation representatives shared their restaurant management experience in China, their ideas on expanding the business to U.S. and their questions about that as well. They also showed support and interest investing in the Thompson Education Center project because they believe that the project has tremendous potential.

Thompson Education Center project offers restaurant investment opportunities to Chinese restaurant owners who want to do business in U.S. The idea is to bring more authentic Chinese cuisines to the student dining hall. It will not only enrich students’ dining experience, but will also attract more food enthusiasts to come here and try some traditional Chinese cuisine that won’t be found in China Town or Flushing.

On May 22, both parties (Thompson Education Center and China Cuisine Association) accompanied by the officer from the Sullivan County Visitors Association visited the Culinary Institute of America. They were very impressed by its well-equipt and fully functional facility settings and professional faculty members. In the future, Thompson Education Center would like to work with the Culinary Institute of America, to invite their chef-instructors as guest professors, and to design special culinary education programs for TEC students. Thompson Education Center believes that together they will provide students a unique and exciting culinary learning experience.

On May 23, the delegation from the China Cuisine Association visited TEC project site. Later TEC hosted a luncheon at Bernie’s Holiday Restaurant. The project professionals that co-hosted include: Dan Ionescu Architects, Proyect & Hart Attorneys at Law and D&D Construction. In addition to these companies there were also keynote speakers from the following government agency which include two officers from United States Embassy of Beijing. These speakers all came for the same reason, which is to show support for the project because it has the potential to spur economic growth, job creation, to increase the amount of visitors to the region and to help Chinese businesses invest in the U.S.

The event was well attended and highly successful in bringing together many of the Chinese entrepreneurs that would like to invest in the project. Thompson Education Center gained enormous positive feedback from the delegation since they felt the project has tremendous potential to provide better educational programs, better dinning quality for students and better investment opportunities. Besides the Thompson Education Center Project will benefit the Sullivan County since it will increase the local employment rate of the Sullivan County, stimulate economic growth in the region, and increase the amount of visitors to the region.

In tough economic times, the Thompson Education Center will bring an influx of many jobs to Sullivan County. Initially and throughout the project, many contractors and real estate workers will be employed. In fact, since Thompson Education Center Job Opportunity Event was held on Oct. 22, 2014, the project has already offered some job contracts to local contractors and other professional firms and more and more job contracts will be offered throughout the entire project. Once the project is complete, there will be many job openings at the Thompson Education Center. The project will not only be beneficial to local businesses and economic development but it would also increase the number of local jobs available. Thompson Education Center has already moved to the planning and construction stage, many planning jobs and some construction related jobs have been created and there will be many construction related jobs available as the project moves forward. After it is built, there will be real estate related jobs to maintain daily operations, including but not limited to sales, professors, instructors, school book store and shop keepers, chefs, landscapers, cleaning, and maintenance workers that are much needed in the area and the United States.
