Elizabeth Pavlicek Jarvis marks her debut in the world of literature with the release of her novel titled “Not Just Words of Love” (published by Xlibris). This new book follows a young woman in an unrelenting quest to find her purpose and preserve her identity in the rapidly shifting cultural and social landscape of the Swinging Sixties.

“Not Just Words of Love” opens in the summer of 1968. After a year of college, 18-year-old Olga returns to their family farm. She cares for her handicapped sister, Agnes, and helps their father with the fieldwork. The rhythm of their life is interrupted with the arrival of John, an enigmatic stranger looking for work in their Texan cotton farm.

At first, Olga resents the young man’s presence, angry that he had encroached into her closely guarded world. Soon, however, she opens up to him, even sharing her Czech heritage and her thirst to find meaning in her life. Her subsequent journey through romance and self-discovery unfolds against the backdrop of historic events including the assassination of Robert Kennedy, the Civil Rights Movement and the invasion of Czechoslovakia.

“Not Just Words of Love” is a glimpse into one of the most colorful times in world history as experienced by a young woman determined to chart her destiny.
