James Butler marks his debut in the world of literature with “The Copper Line” (published by Xlibris UK). This new novel follows an ex-soldier’s attempts to survive amid the perils of the Paraguayan wilderness.

Butler largely based his debut novel on his personal experiences as a soldier. He introduces readers to the protagonist, Joseph Allen, who is on an undercover operation in the blistering heat of a remote region of Paraguay. Joseph is tasked to gather information on the activities of a government department attempting to mine land set aside for the Indians.

The appearance of Amanda Perry in this wilderness sets off a chain of events that leaves them both vulnerable and exposed; desperately trying to escape what is fast becoming a subtropical nightmare. Can the twists and turns of Joseph’s life and the experiences of his past help him in his present situation and prepare him for the tragedy and challenges of the future?

In this landscape of fear and violence, Butler crafts a deeply moving, humanistic tale of hope, courage and the tough choices that become necessary for survival. “The Copper Line” is an unforgettable first novel.
