Dearborn, MI (PRWEB) February 03, 2015

Magic Carpet Theatre is pleased to announce that they are the recipient of four Early Childhood Reading grants from Target© totaling $ 8,000, providing exciting performance opportunities for their 2014-2015 season. The purpose of these grants is to fund theatrical performances and workshops that promote childhood reading and literacy to elementary school children throughout Michigan and Ohio.

Catherine Zardus, Artistic Director of the educational non-profit, is thrilled that Target grants are truly helping inspire children all over Michigan and Ohio. “Through this Target funding our season includes 16 educational performances for elementary school children in the Michigan school districts of Ann Arbor, Van Buren and Mt. Pleasant and Columbus area schools in Ohio. It is a privilege for us to inspire imaginations and promote literacy in the lives of these children.” The focus of the Magic Carpet Performance and Workshop is to encourage children to use their imaginations so they will become better readers. The Magic Carpet Performance is fast-paced with lots of humor and audience participation and also inspires positive messages. Modern pieces like Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak are within the company’s repertoire along with multicultural poetry and classics by Dr. Seuss and the Brothers Grimm. “Through our enduring relationship with Target and their generous support, we are able to reach students who otherwise might not have had the opportunity to experience live theatre. We are tremendously grateful.”

Magic Carpet Theatre, a 501c(3) educational non-profit organization, is dedicated to its mission of inspiring children to read by bringing literature to life through their unique and fun readers theatre style. They have performed their imaginative Magic Carpet Show, Bridge Show and Workshops for over 140,000 children in hundreds of schools and libraries across Michigan.
