Manhattan Beach, CA (PRWEB) June 11, 2015

P.S. I Love You Foundation, a non-profit organization that has reached over 10,000 at-risk kids through its mentor and enrichment programs, announced today that its 15th annual Day At The Beach, ‘Adopt a Child for One Day’ will be held at Manhattan Beach on July 18th.

‘Adopt a Child for One Day’ brings over 300 at-risk kids (aged 5 – 12), from the Los Angeles area, many of whom have never seen the beach, together with volunteer mentors for a day of fun by the ocean. The day includes surf lessons, sand crafts, relay races and swimming. New this year is a “Words of Wisdom Tent” staffed by local senior citizens who will provide favorite life quotes and words of wisdom for children. Plus, local Olympian Mike Dodd will also be on hand with the Dodd Volleyball School to teach kids how to play beach volleyball.

“Fifteen years ago, we started ‘Adopt a Child for One Day’ with three families as part of our mission to help at-risk kids through hands-on emotional and social development outreach,” said Patricia Jones, Founder of PSILYF. “Over the years, we’ve seen the tremendous impact connecting a child, who might not otherwise have a positive role model, with a mentor can have – for both child and mentor. Our volunteer mentors have an opportunity to tap into the dreams and passions of these kids, helping to build confidence, and offering friendship. It is truly an uplifting and inspiring experience.”

“P.S. I Love You has been such a huge factor in me becoming a man,” shares Christopher Aaron Polk (from the original family that inspired PSILY). “Patricia Jones and PSILY stepped up for my grandmother who was raising me and my nephews and nieces at the time. I have been amazed to see where the foundation is today and the lives it touches daily, which continues to show me the smallest act of kindness that comes from your heart can create global change for so many others!”

In addition to The ‘Day At The Beach’ event, P.S. I Love You Foundation develops and implements social and emotional curriculum that empower academic responsibility, emotional intelligence, self-acceptance, social interaction and mindful goal setting. The organization also works with shelters, family service organizations and Title 1 schools to identify at-risk youth and create positive activities that will empower, inspire, educate and influence the course of their lives.

The 15th Annual ‘Day At The Beach’ will be held from 9am to 3pm on Saturday, July 18th, on Manhattan Beach between 6th and 8th Street, just a few blocks south of the Manhattan Beach Pier. Children attending the event come from throughout Los Angeles County and volunteers are from all over Los Angeles, many are South Bay locals.
