P W Brisley debuts in the world of children’s literature with a heartwarming storybook titled “Fred’s the Star” (published by Partridge Singapore). This new book uses the fictional tale of two unlikely animal friends to teach readers the importance of being thoughtful, accepting and caring, and the rewards of working together.

As a head teacher in England and beyond, Brisley found it useful to use stories to help illustrate important lessons to his students in both in his classes and assemblies. “Fred’s the Star” is one such story. It follows the experiences of the titular Fred, a young field mouse, who becomes friends with Bertie who is “not just a badger, but a badger of great repute.”

Winter has just passed and Fred and Bertie must now look for new homes. This proves to be a tricky task and they must learn to work with each other – and possibly other animals – if they want to succeed. “Fred’s the Star” is unique not just for its story and characters but because it offers readers a glimpse into the breathtaking landscape of the Yorkshire Dales along the central spine of the Pennines in United Kingdom.
