New York, New York (PRWEB) January 31, 2015

The testosterone lawyers (http://www.testosteronelawsuithub.com/testosterone-lawyer/) at Bernstein Liebhard LLP note the publication of a new study that purports to question the association between prescription testosterone therapy and serious cardiovascular problems. The study, which was published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings, consisted of a review of scientific literature going back to 1940. While the authors of the report found “no large, long-term, placebo-controlled randomized clinical trials in the field of therapy to provide definitive conclusions about cardiovascular risk,” they concluded that the balance of the evidence shows that low testosterone therapy is safe.*

It should be noted that the authors of the report include members of the Androgen Study Group, which has been criticized for its relationship with the pharmaceutical industry. For this study, the authors disclosed ties to a number of testosterone therapy manufacturers, including Abbvie, Auxilium, Eli Lilly and Endo Pharmaceuticals.**

“These findings come just months after a panel of FDA advisors recommended that the manufacturers of testosterone therapies undertake large studies to better assess their heart risks, and it contradicts the findings of several testosterone studies published over the past year,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices.*** The Firm is representing men who allegedly suffered serious cardiovascular problems due to their use of low testosterone therapy, and continues to offer free case reviews to those who may have been harmed by prescription testosterone products.

Testosterone Treatment Litigation

Testosterone treatments have been the subject of concern since the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced on January 31, 2014 that it had launched a review of their safety, after studies indicated the drugs may raise the risk of heart attack, stroke and death in certain men. These studies included research that was published in November 2013 in the Journal of the American Medical System that suggested an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and death among older men with pre-existing heart problems. A second observational study reported that such treatments ware associated with a doubling of the heart attack risk among younger men with pre-existing heart problems, and in men over 65 regardless of their heart health, the FDA said.

Court records indicate that more than 280 testosterone lawsuits are now pending in a federal multidistrict litigation now underway in U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois. All of the claims were filed on behalf men who allegedly experienced heart attacks, strokes, blood clots, and other cardiovascular problems due to their use of these medications. Among other things, these lawsuits accuse drug manufacturers of failing to adequately warn about the association between testosterone replacement therapy and life-threatening heart complications. Plaintiffs further accuse the companies of concealing information about these side effects, and claim that misleading marketing claims about the benefits of testosterone products drove healthy men to take them. (In re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Product Liability Litigation – MDL No. 2545)

In September, a panel of FDA advisors recommended that labeling on testosterone medications be adjusted to make clear their lack of proven effectiveness in treating low libido, fatigue, muscle loss and other symptoms men often experience as they age. Panelists also recommended that the FDA require manufacturers of testosterone replacement therapies to conduct large-scale studies of their cardiovascular side effects.***

Men who allegedly suffered serious cardiovascular events due to their use of prescription testosterone treatments may be entitled to compensation for their injury-related damages.
