From entertainment resources to connecting with loved ones, the Telmate Tablet provides incarcerated men and women with access to positive resources — all at no cost to the taxpayer. Today, the company announced a record-breaking 2 million minutes per month of total inmate usage.

The Telmate Tablet provides inmates access to everything from religious ebooks and services, to job search and other self-improvement resources. What’s more, the tablets allow inmates to receive reviewed photos and messages from friends and family members as well as access to approved news, music, sports and video entertainment resources. The tablets are also capable of providing legal and educational resources.

Access to, and use of, the device is completely controlled and monitored. Inmates require a PIN for access and usage, which facility staff control and monitor. Individual access can be instantly disabled at any time if the device is removed from its premises or if suspected tampering or misuse occurs.

Facilities have seen a significant improvement in inmate behavior and reduction of inmate violence as a result of the introduction of the tablet device. Not only is this technology beneficial to inmates, it also offers tremendous benefit to corrections staff by automating and improving repetitive, high-cost administrative tasks; for example, routing inmate grievances and medical requests with a touch of a button.

“Reaching 2 million minutes a month is a significant milestone for Telmate and an important indicator of the successful adoption of inmate tablets in the corrections industry,” Telmate Chief Marketing Officer, Jeff Hansen reported. “Telmate was the first to introduce wireless tablets into the inmate population over a year ago and now provides secure inmate tablets to correctional facilities across the country. This recent milestone means that inmates are spending 2 million minutes a month immersed in positive resources, instead of unproductive and potentially criminal activities.”
