Freeslate, Inc., the leading provider of high throughput research solutions for biopharmaceutical development, today announced the introduction of the Pre-Filled Syringe Expulsion System. This system was designed to automate the explusion of pre-filled syringes into vials which can then be handled by the Freeslate Biologics Formluation System for automated analytical sample preparation and analysis. The data generated ultimately can be linked to the syringe stress condition and sample composition in the Freeslate LEA database providing an end-to-end automated formulation development workflow.

An increasing percentage of biotherapeutics are formulated in pre-filled syringes. However, utilizing syringes in an automated formulation workflow has not been possible until now. The new Pre-Filled Syringe Expulsion System combines automated sample expulsion with sample tracking to allow the use of pre-filled syringes with automated workflows. With an error-proof, integrated bar coding system, scientists no longer need to be concerned about errors in manual transfer of formulations to vials or errors with sample labeling. This system also increases safety while reducing the cumbersome, manual process of expelling the contents of syringes.

“We are committed to providing an end-to-end solution for the rapid development of formulations for stable biologics,” said John S. Senaldi, President and CEO of Freeslate. “The Pre-Filled Syringe Expulsion System is another step towards supporting our customers to get drugs to market as fast as possible with robust manufacturing processes.”

Freeslate automated solutions address the complex problems of drug development, including protein and vaccine formulation. The company’s technologies enable customers to explore a broader design space to support QbD initiatives, reduce manufacturing risk, manage data from orthogonal analytics to help drive informed decision making, and better control capacity by increasing productivity.

The Pre-Filled Syringe Expulsion System is designed to work as either a standalone system or with the Freeslate Biologics Formulation System. Based on the Freeslate Core Module 3 (CM3) automation platform, the Biologics Formulation System combines liquid dispense and controlled heating/cooling/mixing with new automated measurements of pH, viscosity, and visible particle counting. Supported by Freeslate’s Lab Execution and Analysis (LEA) software suite, the system provides intuitive experiment design and allows for the control and data integration of a range of third party analytics including Dynamic Light Scatter (DLS), UV/VIS plate readers, and High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), maximizing R&D productivity.
